Tech We Want This Week: Huawei Mate 9

The phone that packs a serious punch

How big do you want your smartphone to be? How big so you need your smartphone to be? Huawei (pronounced, as they're surely sick of reminding everyone by now, 'Wah-Way!') has announced its Mate 9, which packs a massive 5.9in screen (by comparison Apple's iPhone 7 Plus is a puny 5.5in)

We're deep into phablet territory here, which may or may not be your thing. Either way this device comes with some serious chops. A hardcore battery that charges to 58 percent in 30 minutes, a Leica Dual Camera with a 20-megapixel sensor and the latest version of Huawei's customised Android 7.0 Nougat, called Emotion UI 5. There's also a limited 5.5in Porsche Design edition with a 2K AMOLED curved display, 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. By teaming up with brands like Porsche Design and Leica, Huawei is moving inexorably into luxe territory. This is a beauty of a beast.
