Shelter Me 1 by Mella Jaarsma, 2005
The all-out glutony of the festive season has left our bodies broken and bereft. Pick yourself up with some culture and hit Aware: Art Fashion Identity this January, the latest exhibition to take residence at London's Royal Academy.
Contemporary art meets fashion for the show, which features pieces by a range of fashion extroverts including Grayson Perry, Hussein Chalayan, and the late Alexander McQueen. Other, even more avant garde pieces can be found throughout, such as a screening of Yoko Ono’s 1965 performance “Cut Piece”, which featured the public snipping away parts of her costume and Mella Jaarsma's architectural robe "Shelter Me 1", more a temple than a dress.
GSK Contemporary – Aware: Art Fashion Identity is on display at the Royal Academy of Arts until 30 January 2011. www.royalacademy.org.uk/aware
