It's been a long time since we've got excited about a phone. Baring the launch of the iPhone - which doesn't really count - the last time was back in 1999 with the launch of Nokia's arial-free 3210. We were in our teens and the world of ill-advised texts, enormous bills and garish changeable fascias was naught but a twinkle in our eye.

That said, the latest offering from much celebrated leather goods designer Bill Amberg managed to grab our attention. Not least because only 60 of these little beauties have been made.

On sale from today exclusively at London department store Selfridges, the cases (which come built onto 60 limited edition BlackBerry 9780 phones) are available in a variety of colourways - yellow on black, orange on black, red on black, pink on white, blue on white and green on white - with only ten numbered editions of each design available.

Amberg said of the design “Quality products like this are crying out for something complementary on a functional and stylistic level, which is both beautiful and unique.” After a sales pitch like that, we're wondering why you're still reading this and not on your way to Oxford Street.

But, if you still need some persuasion, David Beckham was the first to order one. Run.

The Bill Amberg-designed BlackBerry 9780 is available for £1000 from Selfridges on December 1. Selfridges, 400 Oxford Street, London, www.selfridges.com www.blackberry.com
