Grey Derivations - Secretaire by Marteen Baas
You'd think we'd be fed up with design following the past month's smorgasbord of art fairs, design festivals, fashion weeks and open weekends. You'd think, but you'd be wrong. Next weekend sees the launch of London's fourth Super Design 2010, and we'll be first in line.
Taking residence in Bloomsbury's Victoria House, the four day-long exhibition happens over the same weekend as Freize Art Fair. A smaller, and altogether more manageable event than its gargantuan cousin, Super Design will offer a welcome design-led pit-stop for those brave enough to battle Freize's braying crowds.
Alongside work from a selection of upcoming international designers, the show will also feature one-off pieces and limited editions from a host of the design world's most important names. This year's list includes the likes of Philip Michael Wolfson, Arik Levy, the Campana Brothers and Maerten Baas, whose "Grey Derivations" desk is the perfect synthesis between grown up functionality and tongue-in-cheek playfulness.
Super Design will take place between October 14-17 in Victoria House, Bloomsbury Square, London. www.superdesign-london.com
