The automotive gurus at MINI have never been afraid of a little blue sky thought. At a private soiree in London's Soho yesterday evening the BMW-owned company unveiled the newest addition to its automotive family; the MINI Scooter E Concept.
Designed as a means of traversing clogged inner-city streets, the electric motor-powered scooter is aimed firmly at the yuppie demographic. Commendably, MINI have jumped onto the sustainable motoring bandwagon, with a vehicle that can be charged via an AC adapter at any standard power socket.
Furthermore, the Scooter will have smart phone activation (keys are so 2009), integrating seamlessly with your iPhone and working as a route finder, music player or mobile (via the Scooter’s inbuilt ‘hands-free’ kit). So far, so futuristic.
Crucially, the designers haven’t lost sight of the key components that make MINI, MINI. With upholstered brown leather seating, a classic circular speedometer, chrome trims on the bodywork and paintwork available in matt charcoal, British Racing Green and white (emblazoned with sixties-style Mod graphics), it could well be time for a new MINI adventure.
