Bethnal Green might not be fully gentrified (and thank the Lord for that), but the latest hotel opening from Design Hotels is a testament to the rise and rise of one of London’s most energetic neighbourhoods.

Set within the impressive surrounds of Bethnal Green’s Town Hall, the 98-room Town Hall Hotel has been designed by entrepreneur and hotelier Peng Loh, while the Edwardian building itself has been brought back to life by French architecture team, Rare.

The most interesting element of the new residence however –aside from the fact that star chef Nuno Mendes opened his much lauded eatery Viajante here earlier in the summer - is the series of artworks that will populate the corridors and public spaces from this Thursday onwards.

The permanent “exhibition” – pulled together by art-world fixers Artsadmin - takes focus on home-grown East End talent (all artists were required to have a working studio in Tower Hamlets, Hackney or Newham) and the works on show have been chosen by a panel including Turner Prize nominee Zarina Bhimji and the Whitechapel Gallery’s Iwona Blazwick. We’re expecting great things.

The Town Hall Hotel is located on Patriot Square, London. For further information visit www.townhallhotel.com
