After a long wait, the usual hype and one poor guy who now wishes he'd gone easy on the German lager, the iPhone 4 is finally here. But does it live up to expectation?

In a word, yes. Despite being a little slimmer (9.3mm, in fact) and a little flatter (so no more spinning it on desk-tops), it offers a whole lot more on the hardware front. Like a sharper 5MP camera with an LED flash (plus HD video and face-to-face conference calling), a "Retina Display" (Apple speak for a pleasingly crisp screen), a better Wi-Fi aerial and a 40% longer battery life.

Add in the ability to edit film clips, folders and playlists on the move – as well as finally letting you multitask with impunity – and you have a convincing argument for upgrading your handset. Again.

Available from 24 June (pre-order from 15 June) in 16GB and 32GB versions
