In this month’s issue we extol the virtues of Victorinox’s new "unhackable hardrive", I quote - "finally, a safe place to hide your porn". Whilst an unhackable hard drive is, without doubt, a visionary piece of kit – it’s not much to look at.

As a design-led alternative, we’ve put forward this remarkable object by Dutch designer Laurens Manders. Entirely impractical, (you’ll need to live in a white cube to own one), the hidden compartment at its centre got the school-boy in us all excited.

Entitled The Vault, the piece has been constructed from steel and nut wood, and is meant to resemble a piece of fools gold. Manders describes the concept thus, "You can steal the vault and/or its ´valuable´ contents but you will find out that it's of no value to you at all". Right. Whilst the sales pitch may need a little work, we’re imagining The Vault will fetch a pretty penny when it goes up for auction at Pierre Bergé on June 9th.
