The corkscrew. The iPod. The readymade bowtie. Just a few items that have made man’s day-to-day existence run a little more smoothly over the course of time. But we’re not interested in the past; we’re keen to know what the future tools of mankind will offer and, just as importantly, what form they will take.

So if you reckon you can design a product that will fit effortlessly into men’s everyday routines and make our lives a whole lot easier in the process, prove it to us by entering the inaugural Esquire Student Design Challenge.

If you’re currently studying a BA or MA design course in the UK, or have graduated from one in the last two years, we want to know what new device you think we’ll be relying on in years to come. It can be literally anything, so long as it’s original, practical and can, in principle, be manufactured.

Esquire’s crack team of product addicts will then whittle down the entrants to a shortlist of 10 winning designs that will not only be featured in our November issue but also be showcased in an exclusive London exhibition.

How to enter

If you think you’ve got what it takes, email us a blueprint of your product concept along with a 250-word summary explaining how your design works and why it will improve men’s lives, as well as your name, age, university course title and contact phone number/email address to design@esquire.co.uk

All entries must be received by Tuesday 1st June.

The 10 winning students will then be required to build a replica of their product to reach us by Monday 2nd August. It will need to be of a sufficient quality that it can be photographed for inclusion in the magazine and be exhibited to the public at a later date. (N.B. It does not have to be a working model.)

So get cracking and you could win the first annual Esquire Student Design Challenge. Good luck.
