The poor boffins at Nintendo don’t seem to get any holiday. Less than a year after the DSi landed in our hands, the powers that be appear to have decided the fold-up isn’t packing enough inches - not that the existing 113m users worldwide seem to be complaining.

So here comes the whopping DSi XL – which boasts almost double the screen size of the DS Lite (via two, 4.2-inch touch-screen displays no less) , and ships with a dictionary-cum-translator, internet browser and bite-sized Dr Kawashima brain training game pre-installed. There are other changes (like an oversized stylus and improved, 17-hour battery), but we rate the wider viewing angle the most. £160, out 5 March
