In the tradition of the Eames Lounge, the Burberry trench coat or even Henry the hoover, the Arco LED Lamp just gets it right.
Design classics, by way of their beauty, simplicity or functionality, have a knack of making everything else look a bit rubbish by comparison.
Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962, the swooping illuminator is constructed from a 2.5m tall arced stem of polished steel, is rooted to the ground by 65kg of Carrara marble and blows all other floor lamps out of the showroom.
Now, to celebrate the five decades since its inception, the Arco has been given a high-tech upgrade by manufacturer Flos. Featuring an integrated, dimmable LED light source (which will last pretty much forever) the new lamp is not only functional, simple and beautiful, it’s energy saving to boot. Winner.
