The sun is shining and bitterness at not going to Glastonbury is still coursing through our veins - the good news for all those who missed out is that tickets are still available for Latitude, which takes place in the picturesque rural surroundings of Henham Park, Southwold, on July 16-20 - and has recently announced that Thom Yorke of Radiohead has been added to the bill.

Since its birth in 2006 Latitude has garnered rave-reviews, as well as attracting celebrity punters such as the Arctic Monkeys (who enjoyed last year's event so much they wrote songs for their upcoming new album whilst camping). Offering a more chilled-out approach to summer festival-going, Latitude sees a cosier 10-15,000 pitching tents and sampling the delights of woodland DJ sets and the boating lake.

This year promises a somewhat nostalgic, retro feel, with headliners including Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. But the strength of Latitude's resolutely left-field approach is that it caters for all ages - Editors, the beautiful Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes) and Passion Pit being on hand to satisfy younger indie fans.

In addition to the extensive bill of musicians, bands and artists spread across four stages (including the Lake Stage, curated by BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens), Latitude also offers elements of theatre, art, comedy, cabaret, poetry, politics and literature. Whether it's sets from more established comics such as Jo Brand or Dave Gorman, or a performance of Hamlet by the Royal Shakespeare Company, this is the festival antidote to Reading or Leeds. And with three-day camping tickets still available we recommend it as the perfect last-minute getaway. William Parry
