Hasselblad has a long history of making high-performing cameras for professionals - Neil Armstrong used a Hasselblad 500EL to take the first images on the moon’s surface.

With this space connection in mind, the Swedish manufacturer has launched The Lunar - a camera which is intended to be both state-of-the-art in a technical sense, but a super-luxury object in its own right - in the words of CEO Dr Larry Hansen: "We didn’t set out to make just another black box camera just like all the rest – this is a camera that will grow with you."

What does that actually mean?

Well, the Lunar comes in five grip styles - carbon fibre, olive, mahogany and even two types of Tuscan leather, but if theose options aren't sufficient for certain 'exacting' customers, the Lunar can actually be designed to your specific specifications. Gold? Platinum? Apparently not a problem. Yes, the first bespoke camera has arrived.

The result is a high-functioning consumer camera with striking looks - the priciest compact camera around. But if you have a penchant for Tuscan leather we doubt if competitive pricing is top of your priority list.
