It's something we've all wondered: how can I combine my love of recklessly tearing through town on my bike, with my love of blaring out music at high volume? If only there was a weatherproof wireless speaker that slotted neatly into my water bottle holder and/or cup holder? Now, thanks to the BoomBOTTLE, there is.
Made from durable, non-slip, shock absorbing thermoplastic exterior, with dustproof speaker grills and big rubberised buttons it's been designed to be be banged about in rough terrain and dropped. Its IP4X weatherproof construction means its protected from rain, sweat and, in the words of its makers Scosche, other moisture.
There's four speakers top and bottom with an omnidirectional diffuser that punts out Bluetooth-ed music in all directions, so it's good for house parties, barbecues, and so on. Obviously it'll also give audio a significant boost if you're watching movies or playing games on a tablet or phone.
The 'bottle' thing might seem like a bit of a random quirk - an accompanying promo video has a bunch of American teenagers having the time of their lives while out surfing, pulling wheelies, snogging at pool parties, etc, BoomBOTTLE always to hand, while in this country we're perhaps more likely to encounter cup holders in either the cinema or our cars, both places where it might not be strictly necessary.
But it's an impressively solid thing to hold and it's already won a couple of design prizes, including Innovations and Design Award Honoree at CES 2013 for delivering top notch sound on the go, so, hey, we're sold. Race you at the lights.
The grey boomBOTTLE is available now from Amazon for £120. More colours (green, yellow, pink and blue) will be available later in 2013.
