Perhaps too often, Vespas have conjured imagery wholly congruent with the modern man: it’s your Roman Holiday, your Douche In Ibiza, your Tech Startup Hipster, and so on.

With the anniversary release of the new 946 – available soon in the UK on a limited run – the iconic brand pivots its image brilliantly. This all-black everything model has something of a rebel lustre. Needless to say, it’s caught our ever-wandering moto-eye.

The hand-built two-wheeler was inspired by the first Vespa prototype. Of course, the 2013 spec comes with a luxe edge: stitched leather hand-grips, fully digital instrumentation, and an effortlessly responsive 125cc heart that’s up to task.

Really, the argument for the Vespa is as compelling as it’s ever been: cheaper, easier to park, greener, and, as of now, a considerably stylish way to zip about.
