The Veyron sent tremors down the spine of every male when it was launched in 2005. The tyre-bursting, eye-watering, lung-crushing – whatever metaphor you want to throw out there – performance of the machine was phenomenal. However, a thing of beauty it was not.

The marque has a rich racing pedigree, but their recent behemoths have somewhat lost the style that was synonymous with the brand in the early 20th Century. Now though, with the launch of the second Bugatti in the Legends series we have a return to form. Honouring the eldest son of founder Ettore Bugatti, the latest legend is inspired by Jean’s personal Type 57SC Atlantic. Now that was a thing of beauty. And so it would seem is this.

However, strip away the jet black carbon fiber body and the platinum horseshoe grill, and you will find the beating heart of the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse:1200 horses stabled within. Combine this raw power with slick aerodynamics and 62mph will be reached in just 2.5 seconds, with your foot not easing off until you've hit 255.

With an expected cost of around £2million, maybe it's not so bad that they've only made three after all.
