Like opening jars, reaching things on high shelves and reading maps, the ability to change a bicycle tyre inner tube is a prerequisite of being a man. Only, without the right tool, you can look like a right tool.

It was a problem faced by London-based entrepreneur and cyclist Mark Windsor. “I was sick of being caught out on numerous occasions missing the essential tool to fix either a puncture or component malfunction, resulting in a long walk home,” he says. “There had to be a better way than always carrying around a spanner, tyre levers and a conventional multi-tool.”

His solution? The Nutter, a nifty multi-tool, which includes a tyre lever, 15mm box head spinner, screwdrivers, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8mm hex tool bits, torque key, magnetic tool bit extender and, arguably most importantly, a bottle opener, all in a snappy leather pouch (which is lined with recycled tyre rubber – a nice touch). It feels reassuringly hefty in the hand but weighs just 110g – and it easily fixed to your bike frame or saddle. (It should be noted at this point, cyclists like their kit.)

And after a highly successful Kickstarter campaign – raising £37,632 in just 45 days – The Nutter is now in production.

Now Windsor almost finds himself wishing for a flat tyre. Almost.

“It's a strange notion,” he says, “to look forward to a problem arising, just so you can fix it.”
