In 2014's first piece of impressive-but-vaguely-troubling tech news, contact lenses have been developed that give wearers super human vision.
The mega-pixel lens gives the wearer an ability to focus in a way that the naked human eye is incapable of – for example, when the wearer puts their finger up to their eye, they can see the intricate details of their fingerprint.
The company responsible – US tech wonder start-up Innovega – displayed a prototype of its iOptik lenses at this month's Las Vegas International Consumer Electronics Association Show.
Slightly less cool is their Google Glass-style spectacles which, while they can display apps and other media, place you firmly in tech-geek territory rather than turning you 5% Superman.
All very exciting, but let us not forget the last time our field of vision was dramatically improved by an advancement in technology - HD TV. Great for nature documentaries, not so good when confronted with the intricaties of Adrian Chiles' face. Be careful what you look for, is all we're saying.
