We know, we know, men have always fallen into the trap of using innuendo when writing about cars but where the new Jaguar F-Type coupe, unveiled last night in Canary Wharf, is concerned, you might have to excuse us.

To great fanfare and dramatic music, the hardtop version of last year’s F-Type convertible, made its first public appearance to a packed auditorium, introduced by none other than new brand ambassador Jose Mourinho and Jag design guru Ian Callum.

Callum, a self-confessed Jag nut since he was a kid and long-time devotee of the original E-Type is clearly proud of the car on show and rightly so. “I love it,” he said, admitting it’s his favourite from all the cars he’s worked on. He also admitted the rear of the car  was his favourite bit and it’s hard to disagree

Where the convertible was flatter and more functional from behind, the Coupe comes into its own with sleek arches and a rounded rear window.

Mourinho, who’ll be taking ownership of his own Coupe when production cars hit the streets from March, chipped in with his usual quotable take on it: “It drives like a great player because it does what I want it to do.”
