If you don't drive a particularly nice car, cleaning it is a chore. If you do own a motor you're proud of, it's another thing to get neurotic about. Either way no one is having any fun.

Which is why we're excited by the latest developments at Nissan. They've developed a paint which is hydrophobic and oleophobic (repels water and oil), meaning that the usual muck that goes whizzing up the sides of your pride and joy is unable to stick.

Mud basically slides straight off, if this nifty video the company has released is to be believed.

It's just in the trial stages at the minute, but if it ever takes off, surely every manufacturer will want it as standard. And driving down a country road will finally be as relaxing as it's supposed to be.
