Finally - Some Sci-fi Film Technology You Can Actually Buy

It can be annoying waiting for technology featured in sci-fi films to become reality. There's still no retail version of the Back To The Future hoverboard and The Fifth Element's sky motorways don't look likely to get built any time soon. But some good news is out there - that hand wavy thing Tom Cruise does in Minority Report is coming to a computer near you.

The Leap, available to preorder now, is the size of a flash drive and sits in front of your computer monitor, connected by a USB lead. After downloading the Leap Motion software, you're then free to wave your hands around like Cruise - swiping, zooming and generally interacting with your desktop through fingerwork alone.

"This is like day one of the mouse," say the makers. Who also claim it is 200 times more accurate than anything else on the market and can track movements down to 1/100th of a millimetre, all for just $70. And unlike Cruise, no gloves are needed.

It's probably too much to expect the three naked pre-cogs in a bathing pool to launch anytime soon.
