Clearly, the first image of Ben Affleck’s new Batmobile has inspired the officers of the Avon & Somerset police force - if this new model squad car from local sports car manufacturers Ariel is anything to go by.

The custom Ariel Atom 3.5R - dubbed the PL1 - has been designed to raise awareness of the region’s speeding motorcyclists as part of the Safer Rider campaign.

Complete with a supercharged 350bhp Honda engine, aerodynamic Hella pursuit lights and weighing in at a lightweight 612kg, the PL1 looks every bit the police car of the future.

However, while it’d be interesting to see police officers chasing offenders down, dressed in cape, before hanging them off the top of the nearest building and growling that the speed limit is actually 60 mph, the new Ariel Atom 3.5R won’t be put to road use, ironically because it’s too dangerous.

With an ability to hit 60mph in just 2.5 seconds and the fastest recorded lap of the Top Gear track under its belt, it’s safe to assume the PL1 could easily out pace the Dubai police forces’ Lamborghini Aventador squad car and the Lamborghini Huracan that belongs to Italy’s State Police.

In a just world, a real-life police force Wacky Races would already be in development.
