BMW i8: The First Must-Own Hybrid Sports Car

The German manufacturer's latest vehicle will change how we all drive

It’s being hailed as revolutionary; a car that changes how we think about cars. It sold out before it even properly went on sale. No mean feat for a vehicle that costs just shy of £100k and has only three cylinders.

Drive one a short distance down the road and you’re liable to attract a smiling phone-camera wielding mob in your wake. Even in the empty and remote hills of the Western Scottish Highlands where we tested it, our i8 still pulled in a small gang of elderly hillwalkers as groupies.

So why exactly has this hybrid sports car become this year’s most wanted piece of kit? Because, quite simply, it rocks. And at its heart are some innovations that will eventually filter down into the motors we’ll all be driving a few years from now. In a world of hype, this one deserves some hyperbole.
