The Collaboration

Aston Martin x Zagato

Anyone with a spare £396,000 to hand should buy this car immediately. The rest of us are allowed to dream.

The first time Aston Martin collaborated with Italian design house Zagato, back in 1960, it resulted in one of the most beautiful cars ever made — the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato.
Why is it so revered? “It combines brutality and muscularity with something very refined,” explains current Aston Martin design chief Marek Reichman.
That’s a description that seems equally appropriate for this — the Aston Martin V12 Zagato, the latest partnership between the two marques, created by Reichman in Aston’s British design studio at Gaydon.

Signature Zagato design cues are in evidence — the double-bubble roof (designed to make room for race helmets), the overblown full-face grille and the exposed rear end — but this is a car that’s more about looking forward than back.

It’s not just for show either. Two weeks after winning a Concorso d’Eleganza design award, it was racing in the gruelling Nürburgring 24 Hours race.
Now available in a limited run of 150, it could also be a signal of Aston’s evolution. “There may be cues and pointers here about where we’ll be going in the main product line soon,” admits Reichman. Sounds like a good start.
