Let’s just agree that this flying car won’t launch in two years time, but that it does look rather cool. The vehicle above is the brainchild of AeroMobil and was announced at this week’s South by Southwest festival. The main obstacle to a flying car utopia is that even though the plane is capable of flying (and looks like something out of Blade Runner), it needs approval from the FAA (America’s Federal Aviation Administration) if the project is to ever ‘get off the ground’ in a commercial sense and not be left ‘spinning its wheels’.

Japan: land of sushi, giant sea monsters and crazy futuristic technology. The latest innovation to come from the land of the rising sun is the first steps towards beaming solar power directly from space.
The Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) has successfully beamed 1.8kw of energy directly through the air over 170 feet. Obviously, this is barely enough to power a Tamagotchi, but it could provide the key factor for the agency’s plans to send solar panels into orbit then beam the sun’s energy directly to your toaster. Current estimations predict the project won’t be up and running until 2040 so we’ll have to hope Godzilla doesn’t ruin everything before then.

After 20 years of laptops destroyed in anger, sweary outbursts and dire video loading times, 2015 marks the end of Internet Explorer. First developed in 1995, Microsoft have announced that Internet Explorer will be replaced by the company’s new online browser codenamed ‘Project Spartan’.
The new browser will be available on Windows 10 (which will itself be released as a free upgrade to everyone already using Windows) and promises to match the speed and reliability of Safari and Chrome. About time.
4 | Your Chance To Play Gameboy Classics On Your Smartphone

Nintendo has announced it will start producing games for your smartphone, meaning Mario looks set to crop up in a few more releases to add to his 200+ incarnations since his inception in 1981. Donkey Kong may also feature in the games set to be released for both Android and iOS sometime this autumn, which will include new titles and possibly reissues of classics from your school days.
All of this is great news, but not as interesting as speculating about possible cross-overs with existing games. Anyone for Angry Wario Birds or Bejewelled Meets Zelda?
5 | Your New Reason To Visit Bristol

We’ve already filled you in on the world’s first eco city (coming soon to Abu Dhabi) but now it looks like Britain’s first smart city is coming in the form of our jewel of the South East, Bristol.
The city is set to become a fully integrated smart city starting with a high-tech 30 Gigabit per second fibre broadband network linked with Bristol University’s £12m ‘supercomputer’. The experimental project will outfit the city with sensor and connectivity technology with a view to data collection that in turn should help officials work out how to solve problems from traffic congestion to air pollution. The project will also be used to test 5G wireless connectivity which begs the question: ’Is it worth moving to Bristol if it means your Snapchat will load more quickly?’ Time will tell.
