Aviation giants Boeing are taking inspiration from science fiction this week after securing a patent for force field technology that could be used to protect military vehicles and bases from attack.
The ‘Method and system for shockwave attenuation via electromagnetic arc’ works by sensing incoming shockwaves then uses complex maths, science and possibly doubly crossed fingers to produce a shield just in time to save those on the receiving end of TNT explosions, sticks and even stones. Of course, one thing the new tech won't be able to protect is your feelings, so remember to play nice.

After shelling out Dr Evil's favourite ransom figure ($100m) for live streaming app Periscope back in January, Twitter finally let us get our hands on it yesterday on iPhone (with an Android version coming soon). Yes, we know this tech has been around a while in the form of Meerkat, but Periscope promises an upgrade by not only allowing you to broadcast live video of you eating your lunch to your 13 Twitter followers, it also lets you re-watch video at a later date – just in case you've missed an all-important vid from the twitterati.
And, if you really want to show some love to your mate from work live streaming his dog eating an ice cream, you can tap to send 'hearts' which will appear in the bottom corner of the video. Isn't that nice?

We all know Taylor Swift’s got beef with Spotify, but apparently she's a fan of Jay-Z’s new music streaming service, Tidal, and has agreed to let the company host her music (except for recent mega-jam album 1989). Jigga gave a Norwegian company £37m for Tidal in January and plans to offer 25 million high-definition tracks at a cost of £20 per month for subscribers.
As well as presumably paying artists a bigger wedge, Tidal also promises higher audio quality than Spotify, plus exclusive artist interviews and the ability to download music with CD levels of audio clarity – perfect for really feeling the emotion of that song about breaking up with Harry Styles.
