1 | Your New Way To Avoid Getting Lost When Making Videos (above)

We’ve all been there: One minute you’re filming your cat playing with an empty beer bottle and the next moment you wake up, dazed, on a bus to Grimsby. To avoid this, TomTom have released a new action camera, designed to help you capture your adventures and stop you wandering off the path at the same time.

As well as packing GPS and resembling a sort of lightsaber-esque device, the Bandit camera is waterproof and can shoot video footage at a 1920 x 1080 resolution and 60 frames per second – more than enough to capture your jaunt to the shops. It also doubles as a USB stick, meaning you can upload your footage ASAP. Best start thinking of those killer hashtags now.

2 | Your First Look At The Super Spiders Of The Future

Spiderman’s getting a reboot and, not to be outdone, your common garden/bathroom variety of arachnid now has the ability to catch falling planes with their super-strength web.

Of course, this isn’t a natural phenomenon. Reasearchers at the University of Trento, Italy have been spraying the spiders with a solution of 200 nanometer-wide graphene particles and water, which led to the spiders apparently spinning the graphene into their webs in an attempt to clean themselves. The resulting webs were 3.5 times as tough as normal silk webs. Something to keep in mind when your better half is screaming for you to “kill it! Kill it!” next time she ventures into the airing cupboard.

Air travel gets a bad rep these days, but thankfully NASA are on hand to make you even more nervous in the air with their new set of ‘morphing’ aircraft wings. Designed to increase efficiency, the wings will be able to shape shift mid-flight, meaning they’re better for the environment, if bad for your nerves. They’ve already been tested so expect to see them making a commercial debut in the next year or so. The best part is, they’re perfect for keeping gremlins, free-loaders and Bruce Willis off the wings.

4 | Your First Chance To See Self-Driving Trucks In Action

We first warned you about filled you in on Mercedes' self-driving trucks last October, and now the German parent company Daimler AG is preparing to roll out their Freightliner Inspiration vehicles across the USA, with the first models just been given the go-ahead to put the pedal to the metal on Nevada’s roads.

The freight vehicles operate using long and short range radar as well as a stereo camera to operate safely, avoiding accidents and driving efficiently. Daimler would have you believe that this rise of the self-controlled machines has nothing to do with the forthcoming release of the new Terminator ‘film’/Skynet warning. We’ll leave it up to you to decide.

5 | Your New Favourite Battery

You can laugh, but when you think about it, you use batteries everyday, from your phones and tablets to your Xbox controller and that power drill you bought yourself that time you ducked into Wilko’s on Saturday afternoon after five pints.

Tesla clearly love batteries, so much so that they’ve released the Tesla Powerwall, a large lithium-ion battery pack that will store solar energy and act as an eco-firendly back-up power source for homes and offices for a few hours at a time. You can hang it on your wall and the cheapest model will start at £1,949. And if you had any doubts about batterys being cool, the video above begins with rock music! How cool is that?!
