As the temperature drops, your summer grooming cabinet might be in need of a shake-up. Here's how.
Yes, cooler weather can affect your skin in more ways than you think - our grooming columnist Chris Beastall from Niven & Joshua picks five products to ease you through the transition.
1 Invest in a Hand Cream
Dry, cracked skin has never been a good look - especially on hands. A firm handshake, business meeting or dinner date are never helped by the intrusion of unsightly flaky skin and dry cuticles.
Not convinced? Research suggests that women place a surprisingly high importance on a well kept pair of hands. That should be added incentive.
A once daily application of a quality hand cream you can keep it at your desk is just the ticket. Malin + Goetz Vitamin B5 Hand Treatment is a solid choice that will hydrate but not leave an oily residue. It absorbs fast too.
2 Change your Moisturiser
In summer, men tend to rely on oil control moisturisers, with the heat and subsequent sweat causing excess oil. As the temperature cools and central heating systems are switched on, moisture is scarce and skin is far more likely to dry out.
The solution is a thicker, more hydrating moisturiser you can apply in the morning after showering to lock in moisture all day. Drier skin types may wish to reapply before sleep, for extra hydration. Opt for a moisturiser with SPF - even if you think the sun never comes out in a British winter. It still causes damage. Molton Brown Skin-firm Lipoamino Hydrator SPF15 covers all of the above.
3 Consider a Self Tanner
Think bronzing is for girls? Look at the evidence. Your Riviera tan from August is a distant memory which leaves you looking at six month of pale(r) unhealthy looking skin so an instant dash of healthy colour is a quick win.
The latest self tanning products avoid orange disasters, are easily applied and deliver streak free, natural looking results.
Clinique for Men Non-Streak Bronzer is perfect for a one night only affair, it's fade-proof, waterproof and will last until removed with soap and warm water. A sheer, transparent gel that glides quickly over a moisturised face to give an instant glow. And thanks to the packaging, noone needs know you ever use it.
4 Change your Fragrance
It's time to pack that citrusy-fresh summer scent away until next year (back in its box and into a dark wardrobe to keep it in good nick for next summer). Autumn's the time for something richer, warmer and earthier.
Vetiver- and wood-based fragrances are the best options to tick these boxes and Tom Ford Noir is the perfect choice. An oriental fragrance with spicy black pepper oil Orpur® and nutmeg.

5 Get a Diffuser
Let's face it, we're more likely to be holed up at home than in summer, with the central heating on and the windows shut.
The solution is a good home fragrance diffuser, which will subtly emit the scent of your choice for up to 3 months, keeping your home smelling fresh.
Provençal brand Compagnie de Provence offer nice-looking glass bottled fragrance diffusers in a range of scents. Try the Fig - a rich scent that's perfect for the cooler months.
