How to Maximise Your Tan

How to Maximise Your Tan

By investing in the right products, you can maximise your skin's ability to tan when you go on holiday. Our grooming columnist Eli Ankuste of Niven & Joshua picks the products that will help you maintain the perfect tan. Essential if you always seem to come back from holiday with the same pallid skin tone you went away with.

1 Molton Brown Re-charge Black Pepper Bodyscrub Bar (above)

To ensure you get the best tan (yes, even a fake one) you need to make sure your skin’s surface has been suitably prepped. Dead skin cells prevent sunrays from reaching healthy cells, which are the ones that will tan and give you the colour you so desire.

Use Molton Brown’s Bodyscrub Bar to exfoliate your skin with black peppercorns to scrub away dead skin cells. Body scrubs are also important for those that use self tanners as they prepare a fresh surface for product to be applied, hence increasing tan quality and longevity. (£13, Niven & Joshua)

2 James Read Gradual Tan

To avoid looking like the stereotypical Brit abroad use a gradual self-tanner to give your body a natural glow before you set foot on the plane.

This moisturising tanner from James Read’s new line of self-tanning products, has a touch of self-tan making it a risk-free option for those with pale skin or for those who like a more subtle finish. (£24.5, JamesReadTan)

3 Shiseido Moisturising Self Tanner

When self-tanning your face, it’s best to use a product that has been specifically made for the more delicate skin on your face and few are better placed than Japanese skin care experts Shiseido. Their self-tanning emulsion can be used daily in the run up to your holiday, to give a natural bronze colour. (£24.5, Shiseido)

4 Anthony Logistics Sun Stick SPF 15

Most of us remember to use sun cream when we're baking on the beach, but tend top forget when we're on the move. Anthony Logistics has developed a convenient SPF Sun Stick for this very reason.

A dual purpose product, the stick applicator makes it simple to protect easily burned areas such as the eye area, ears and lips with full spectrum UVA/UVB protection and SPF 15.  A perfect size for your pocket, beach bag or golf bag, use the Sun Stick for easy application on the move. (£16, Niven & Joshua)

5 Korres Yoghurt Aftersun Cooling Gel

Despite your greatest sun care precautions, there will be times where the sun reminds you who is boss. For those uncomfortable occasions use the retrospective help of aftersun, more specifically this Korres gentle sunburn anecdote that contains real edible yoghurt.

The remarkable cream-gel cools and soothes your face and body after exposure to the sun, boosting the water levels of your skin while quickly relieving UV-induced red skin, dryness and burning. (£15, Niven & Joshua)
