Grooming Moment of the Week | Cristiano Ronaldo

Grooming Moment of the Week | Cristiano Ronaldo

What was Cristiano Ronaldo doing during the 15 minute interval of his country's crucial opening group match against Germany?

There's nothing like an international football tournament for showcasing a plethora of unexpected and often ill-advised haircuts.

But Germany v Portugal on Saturday might just represent a football grooming first by showing new levels of coiffing dedication on the part of the second best player in the world.

As Portugal's captain and talisman, some might say he should have been leading the half-time team talk alongside his manager Paulo Bento or perhaps offering a stirring call to action for his team-mates with the game perilously balanced at 0-0.

Perhaps he did. But it seems like Ronaldo had other things on his mind too, choosing to spend a fair chunk of the interval in that special place where he no doubt feels most comfortable - in front of the mirror.

In the first half he experimented with a super-slick 1940s Hollywood sweepback (top).

But after half-time, he emerged from the tunnel with a more traditional Cristiano cut, a very carefully spiked style requiring some serious finger finessing and using more gel than a Boot's warehouse (above).

Now that's dedication.
