Our grooming columnist Eli Ankutse spoke to Japanese skincare gurus Shiseido to get some expert tips on how to look after your main asset. Yes, your face.

1 Stop stealing your other half’s products
A lot of men make the mistake of using their girlfriend’s (or wife’s) moisturiser or cleanser, but men actually have a higher level of oil compared to women, and experience a higher level of moisture evaporation, so they really need to be using something that is more tailored for their skin.

2 Rethink your shaving routine
No surprise that running a blade over your skin to rip out hair is going to have an effect - you should be using something that protects as well as moisturises. If you are a daily shaver, you might experience sensitive skin and redness too.

Your skin is oily because you produce more testosterone, but what a lot of people don’t realise is that oily skin can be lacking in moisture, and is actually often dehydrated. Shiseido Cleansing Foam (£21.50) doubles up as shaving foam too so not only does it clean, but will keep skin soft and clear.

3 Use an SPF moisturiser
The sun is the biggest everyday threat to skin. Yes, even in the UK. For those who either work outside or do a lot of outdoor activity in harsh weather conditions, apply a fairly high SPF over your moisturiser, but even office workers should use an SPF daily. Lifestyle factors like daily stress can also effect our skin so it's important to find a way that works for you to unwind.

4 Give your eyes some attention
Eyes are a big giveaway for tiredness and general. Don't use your normal moisturiser as an eye cream.  Shiseido Men Eye Soother (£39.00) is a gel that minimizes the appearance of dark circles, fine lines and puffiness to create a smoother and brighter look.  This works especially well for those burning the candle at either ends or if you stare at a computer screen all day.  You can even top it up throughout the day.

5 Face up to ageing
Starting to get the odd wrinkle? Then get a 'special' cream. The Shiseido Men Skin Empowering Cream (£86.00) is the most effective anti-aging product in the Shiseido Men range, targeting fine lines and improving resilience.
