So it’s not the most politically correct - or affordable - trend to embrace, but exotic skins are the ultimate in understated luxury, and this winter they’re everywhere.

The best thing about this drift into alternative leathers is that there’s no need to channel your inner sheikh to make them work — colours are muted and experimentation with unusual textures is strong; from crocodile skin high-tops, to super-durable eel loafers and soft goatskin coats. It’s about time that cows had a break.
