Good news! After battling the slightly gnawing feeling that Wall-E wasn't all that and Ratatouille was distinctly lukewarm, we're pleased to report that Disney Pixar's last animated feature — their 10th — could be their greatest work since Toy Story. Or maybe it's even better. Up is heartwarming, tender, hilarious, sad, and that's just the first 15 minutes.
Having opened this year's Cannes Film Festival to great acclaim, Up is the story of Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner), a curmudgeonly 78-year-old balloon salesman who decides to tick the last item off his bucket list — and honour his late wife's long-held ambition – by tying a zillion balloons to his house and flying it over South America. Unfortunately he has a stowaway, an 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer called Russell (Jordan Nagai). As you can probably imagine, it's not plain sailing (see the trailer below), but as you can probably also imagine, it's one hell of a ride.
Up is out in here on 9 October and you can see it in 3D in certain cinemas, which is well worth doing if you can.
