We wouldn’t (often) judge books by their covers. Equally, we tend to be more interested in the contents of a wine bottle than its packaging. However, when this stylish brace of bottles from Scottish wine merchants Inverarity 121 produced in collaboration with Glasgow-based design studio Timorous Beasties landed on our desk, we admit, they turned heads.
Beastie boys Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons - more usually associated with striking/subversive fabrics and wallpapers - used their “Glasgow Toile” series as inspiration for the bottles’ contemporary labels (there are four in all). We quaffed the zingy sauvignon blanc and the fruity cabernet merlot - both good value wines that can also provide a conversation fallback should dinner chat start to flag.
