The Shades: EB Meyrowitz

Founded in 1875 and based in London’s historic Royal Arcade, EB Meyrowitz is renowned among aficionados for its spectacles, especially its sunglasses.

Produced in consultation with clients and hand-made in the UK, Meyrowitz’s shades are designed to last a lifetime. “They’re all made to give the wearer extraordinary levels of comfort,” says Jamie Davison-Lungley, director of development.

The bespoke service occupies the shop’s entire upper floor, but alongside this Meyrowitz also offers a ready-to-wear range. You’ll struggle to find much of either line in cold, clinical metal: the brand favours warm, rich tortoiseshell acetate, even natural buffalo horn.

Although at around £2,000 a pair, those really are the cream of the crop. “Buffalo horn has a unique quality of adjusting to the skin temperature, allowing for an almost seamless feel,” Davison-Lungley says. “It’s quite remarkable.”
