Is Obama's Tan Suit Really That Bad?

When President Obama gave a press conference this week to outline his response to ISIL and the growing crisis in Syria, it was his sartorial  – rather than military – strategy that attracted the most attention on social media.

The Leader of the Free World opted for a single-breasted tan two-piece, which was quickly derided as everything from an inappropriate choice for a man declaring war to simply "one of the ugliest suits in the history of this great nation”, as #yeswetan trended on Twitter.

CONCLUSION: While the colour itself is appropriate to the time of the year, a tan suit does feel out of step with the bleak news agenda. It's hard to pull off the stern and serious look when you are channelling The Man From Del Monte. 
 
On the other hand, it's encouraging to see a politician branch out from the regulation sombre dark blue or black. Perhaps Obama was simply trying to distract everyone from the serious issues at hand? If that's the case, this outfit worked a treat.
