In a market place fit to bursting with chronographs, tourbillons, minute repeaters and perpetual calendars, Zenith’s delightfully simple new Elite 6150 is as refreshing as it is handsome.
A revamp of the Elite from the 1990s, the 6150 is powered by a twin-barrel caliber that’ll tick away for over 100hours, but the quality of Zenith’s movements isn’t really under scrutiny. No, here, and perhaps rather shallowly, we’re most enamored with the aesthetics. A 42mm polished stainless-steel case surrounds a brushed silver-toned dial set with sleek rhodium-plated hour markers, and there really isn’t much else. The Tapered lugs give way to an equally simple, and equally beautiful black alligator strap.
As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, Zenith has created a special exhibition at Harrods, which sees limited editions from the new collection, historic pieces and a unique creation made just for the store on show. There’ll also be a Zenith watchmaker on hand to offer visitors the chance to try their hand at fine watch making. But perhaps most excitingly, a replica of the Lancia Stratos rally car, which looks to illustrate Zenith’s new relationship with classic rallying, will be in residence.
The exhibition is only running until Wednesday 27 May, so head down now to avoid certain disappointment. Our tip: go for the car, stay for the watches.
