When it comes to shoe designers there are few more iconic than Salvatore Ferragamo, and when it comes to his designs, there are few more loved than the driving loafers. Now, for the first time, clients can take control of the design process and have the style personalised to great length.
The most alarming thing is the sheer extent of the options on offer. Crocodile, ostrich, even condor calf (not actually condor, we’ve checked), along with many more. And possible colours include ultramarine, sapphire grey, flame red, as well as straight up navy, which would most likely be the Esquire colourway of choice. Then the Gancio ‘ornament’ – the strip of metal that adorns every pair of Ferragamo drivers – is available in brushed palladio, metallic blue, graphite and polished gold, and you can even include personalised lettering. If you need mocassins but never quite found the right mix of texture, colour and finish, then here's your answer.
To celebrate the launch, Ferragamo has created three short films, each featuring three successful, international men. They include: Racing driver Mathias Lauda, co-founder of Soundcloud Alexander Ljung and photographer Johannes Huebl – the man who married Olivia Palermo last year. If you ever wondered how a modern day Dickie Greenleaf might spend his time loafing around the Italian Riviera, it looks a bit like the above.
