Sneaker heads, not to mention Back to the Future fans, have long been itching to get their hands on a real life pair of auto-lacing Nike Mags. And largely thanks to that nearly three-decades-long jones, the Michael J. Fox Foundation just netted £6 million for Parkinson's research.

Last week, 85 of the 89 pairs of the Tinker Hatfield-designed Mags were raffled off by Nike to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation (three more were sold at live auctions). The only way to score a pair was to purchase a $10 (£8) raffle ticket. Entrants could buy as many of those as they wanted, and buy they did. Turns out harnessing the power of sneakerheads is a great way to raise money for charity.

There is still one more chance to score a pair of Mags—as well as raise even more money for Parkinson's research. The final pair of sneakers will be auctioned off on 12 November at a benefit gala for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Time to dig into that 401K.
