British shoemaker Clarks has been in a state of flux for a good few years. Once a brand your Grandad would be embarrassed to be associated with, the company's characteristic mint green stores can now be called, with a vague sense of irony, hipster havens.
This, in no small way, is thanks to the classic desert boot and the surge in popularity the style has enjoyed over the past few seasons.
Another important factor in Clarks' increased success is the series of collaborations the brand has recently undertaken. Previous seasons have seen partnerships with Liam Gallagher's start-up clothing brand Pretty Green and American company Concepts, but the latest, we're pleased to report, is one of the best.
A notable name on the streetwear scene, Ronnie Fieg has collaborated with the likes of Red Wing, Chippewa and Ralph Lauren. What sets Fieg aside from the collab pack, however, is his aim to create something which looks like "a missing piece from a brand's line", as opposed to creating something fans simply wouldn't recognise.
Which brings us neatly on to Fieg's latest collection for Clarks, which employs understated saddle leather on the desert boot, as opposed to more drastic changes - and the resulting shoe is all the better for it.
