As with all things menswear, the commando sole is nothing new, but that doesn't mean that designers haven't started using it as if it were.
Much like the crepe sole, the commando sole is predominantly found on boots as opposed to brogues - though, that said, it wouldn't be totally alien to see the commando on a pair of country shoes.
The store we hold responsible for the commando's resurgence is Present, which is owned by the founders of Duffer. Duffer was responsible for a number of beatuifully produced, custom Tricker's back in the day, so it's no surprise that they've gone back to what they know best.
Their use of the commando sole on several styles has inspired a host of menswear designers to produce some suspiciously similar treatments. But inspiration aside, it does make for a useful shoe in dire weather
