We wouldn't ordinarily advocate buying your trainers from the back of a van, but Puma's new Rewind Forward "pop out" truck — that's pop out, not pop up, phew! — changes everything. It's an innovative touring store designed by three young architecture and design practices (including The Klassnik Corporation, who very kindly built a ping pong lounge next to our office last month — cheers TK!). Oh, and it's more the side of the van than the back. So that's all OK then.
The canvas-sided Iveco Ford truck contains what can best be described as "units" of plywood, polystyrene and mesh cages. These can be popped out and turned into seating or display cases for Puma trainers — both heritage shoes to look at, and new styles to buy. There's a rather neat video of the truck in action, which you can watch here. The truck will be touring London, Manchester and Liverpool, and is currently stationed in Shoreditch until 18 September.
