One intriguing byproduct of menswear going granddad is that certain cities end up gaining a bizarre cool factor. Take Northampton for instance - while it's been known for their shoes amongst those in the know for eons, it's taken on a new edge ever since the blogs got their hands on the city. In fact, stating that you make your shoes in Northampton has become such a badge of honour that blogs have taken to shouting about it.
Michael Williams (of A Continuous Lean fame) made some shoes with Mark McNairy, head designer at J.Press, in Sander's Northampton factory, helpfully writing that his shoes were 'MADE IN NORTHAMPTON, ENGLAND BY ENGLISH PEOPLE' - Just in case you thought any bleedin' foreigners got their mitts on it. While we don't condone literally yelling about where you make your shoes, consumers taking an interest in manufacture can only be good in the long run.
