We’re used to ideas, designs and technology from the world of sneakers influencing the world of leather shoes. It’s been a decade since Prada launched what remains the benchmark sneaker/shoe hybrid, and since then both trainer manufacturers and shoemakers have followed their lead, which in reality means attaching rubber soles to leather uppers.
However, perhaps the tide is turning because on a recent trip to the Nike ID studio in London’s Nike Town we spotted these Air Max 90s. Their stand out feature is the tromp l’oeil brogue detail, although the paisley-print silk-effect lining fabric is also notable. Last week this blog noted a surprising taste for formal hairstyles on the street (see here) so perhaps trainers with brogueing will tap into the same spirit of urban traditionalism.
