Behind the curve

“I see about five of you every week,” said the physio at The London Hand and Wrist Unit when I presented her with my sore thumb, and admitted to being a Blackberry user. It seems that, as with most tech trends, I’m lagging a little with my PDA-induced ailment - technology’s shock troops have had sore thumbs for years (and I’m not talking about Daley Thompson Decathlon on the ZX Spectrum). The answer, in case you too have developed a creaky weakness in your leading thumb, is apparently physio treatment, putting the thumb in this splint for a month to prevent movement in the thumb’s knuckle and doing exercises to build up its strength.
