Wine for the weekend - Mulderbosch

Continuing our thirst for all that is excellent and South African in wine at the moment, this pick from the Stellenbosch region is exceptionally reliable and stylish-looking (we love the label’s nod towards cigar packaging).

Its creator Mike Dobrovic is widely regarded as one of SA’s best white wine-makers — and having tasted this 2007 bottle, we can’t help but agree. On the nose, it has all the typical characteristics of a sauvignon blanc — limes and tropical fruits, lychee — plus some springtime smells of nettles and cut grass. It tastes crisp and refreshing, the citrus acidity balanced with elegant floral flavours. It’s ready for drinking now, which is just as well because our supply is already in the fridge. £11.60,  www.armit.co.uk
