In an unexpected but not totally out of the blue move, Vans have collaborated with Metallica. Yes, that Metallica.
Kurt Cobain and the cardigan. The Ramones and their leather jackets. Ian Curtis and a rolled up shirt. Musicians are known for their trademark pieces of clothing and thus it’s not unusual for brands to collaborate with companies.
Gorillaz made trainers with Converse and rappers have seemingly built a (usually awful) clothing line into their business plan. But this Vans collaboration with Metallica threw us, if only because we still perceive Metallica as the grouchy grandpas of metal who refuse to co-operate with anyone.
They've thrown their Werther’s originals to the side for this collaboration, with each member making their own custom Vans trainer model.
With Hetfield making the Ska8-Hi, Ulrich remaking the classics, Hammett putting hemp on his slip on and Trujilo using Aztec calendar artwork on his edition.
As they’re vans, they’re definitely one for the young or young at heart. Wear these to the next gig you attend for instant cool. Just remember to never say the words ‘instant cool’ or you’ll be rumbled.
