Trainers, sneakers, kicks, runners, gym shoes – call ‘em what you want. It might sound strange but this season’s best, er, athletic footwear is designed to be worn not with shorts or a tracksuit or any kind of sportswear, but with smart trousers and in place of your regular shoes.

Comfortable, stylish and a little bit edgy, the key to pulling off this look successfully is to wear trainers as you normally would a loafer or a lace-up – and not go too crazy with the rest of your outfit.
