The perforations on the brogue were once more than decorative – holes were punched in to the water to allow water drain off if the wearer happened to be wading through a bog. While brogues are no longer worn for any swamp-related pursuits, they're still good for pretty much every other occasion, making them a solid investment for your wardrobe.
If in doubt, buy it in white. Solid advice for trainers, t-shirts and Oxford shirts, less solid advice for denim, tuxedos or wristwear. But a pair of low-cut white trainers are a safe (and, more importantly) stylish choice.
