Twenty years ago, legendary comic writer Alan "Watchmen" Moore and artist Curt Swan decided to write a final Superman story. Latterly, current comics darling Neil "The Sandman" Gaiman and artist Andy Kubert have done the same for the Caped Crusader. Unsurprisingly, neither team saw fit to set their superhero up with a nice condo in Malibu.
Aficionados of the genre will know that the fate of superheroes is a subject that could fuel rows on internet message boards to infinity and beyond, so in order that there are no nasty surprises: the Superman story is set 10 years after his death and recounts his epic final battles in the Fortress of Solitude and under the Northern Lights, while the Batman book is a survey of his past, his present, and possibly his future with some key players - The Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy, and even the Man of Steel - stopping in to pay their respects.
